The glorious voyage of over 80 years of The Assam Tribune, the premier and oldest English daily of North-Eastern India was portrayed in an exclusive documentary which premiered on 2nd May, 2019 on the occasion of Silver Jubilee Function of CEC. This documentary is produced by CEC Educational Society.
As an English daily newspaper published from Guwahati and Dibrugarh with huge readership ‘The Assam Tribune’ is the most popular newspaper in North-East India. The Assam Tribune has a wide reach in terms of circulation figures as well as the reliability of the news matter.
This revered newspaper was first published on 4th August, 1939 in Guwahati by Radha Govinda Baruah as a weekly newspaper under the editorship of Lakshminath Phookan. This venerated newspaper had also played a key role in the independence movement in Assam.
Dipankar Dutta, Founder President of CEC Society and Mrs. Arunima Dutta initiated the idea of making this documentary on this prolific newspaper of Assam. The documentary was premiered on the occasion of 25th year of CEC on 2nd May, 2019.
Titled as “The Assam Tribune-Nation Talks” this was also telecasted by various satellite channels and received much accolades from viewers worldwide. It showcases interviews, visuals, memoirs, and the challenges and triumphs faced over eight decades.
The documentary portrays the glorious journey of North East India’s most popular English daily and its tremendous contribution in shaping the history of Assam. It also highlights the extraordinary story of RG Baruah.
Currently this documentary is available on YouTube for free public viewing and explores the transformation of news and reporting from its inception to the current digital age.
